Astrological Trends for December 27, 2010 – January 2, 2011

Cross-posted from Aloha Astro

The beginning of the work week is busy on Monday, December 27th. In the morning, the moon in the last degrees of Virgo opposing Jupiter conjunct Uranus in Pisces and quincunx Neptune/Chiron in Aquarius could make you feel as though you have so many things to accomplish that you just don’t know where to begin. Emotionally, you may be feeling some post-holiday letdown and are already wishing it was Friday so you could keep the holiday feeling going. Maybe you are one of the lucky ones who doesn’t have to return to the working world today. You can find plenty to do with clean-up from weekend celebrations, chores, and errands. You will still feel the weight of Mars in Capricorn square Saturn in Libra this week. Not all squares are bad, just as not all trines are good. This combination of Mars and Saturn can help you find the ways and means of getting things done and pushes you to become more serious in your thinking and firm in your relationships. Make the best of it – it is losing effect and will fade by the end of this week. The sun and Pluto conjunct in earthy Capricorn can cause you to look more intently at things and anything that you feel strongly about can seem bigger and more important than it may really be. Mercury will be retrograde in Sagittarius for just a few more days. Continue to be cautious in transportation and communication. Get your plans for new projects together so you can be ready to move ahead when Mercury turns direct on Thursday. A mild semi-sextile between Mercury in Sagittarius and Venus in Scorpio aids in pleasant exchanges and even some flirtation between people. Mercury parallel Pluto makes for strong thoughts and speech, possibly about sensitive subjects. Venus parallel Neptune makes you feel nostalgic and romantic. Around dinner time, the moon in the air sign of Libra forms a brief but annoying square to the sun conjunct Pluto in Capricorn, which can trigger some “I’m right, you’re wrong” moments. When the moon is parallel to Chiron this evening, your day will end on a peaceful and possibly romantic note.

Feelings of resistance toward having to work and deal with the struggles of daily living can persist on Tuesday, December 28th, as the moon in Libra joins Saturn, the task master, this morning and forms a square to Mars in Capricorn. You might like to find someone else to do the job, but you know that if you want it done right, you should do it yourself. If possible, work with a partner or a team. The lesson of cooperation and its rewards are tied into this aspect pattern. This evening, as the moon moves on in relationship-minded Libra, it forms a supportive sextile to Mercury in Sagittarius and a semi-sextile to Venus in Scorpio. Mercury and Venus are also semi-sextile to each other and the moon is parallel to dreamy Neptune. Easy-flowing conversation and affectionate feelings make this the perfect evening for connecting with friends, family, or one special person.

Perhaps thoughts of the passing year and plans for the year to come are putting people in a happy frame of mind on Wednesday, December 29th, or maybe it’s just the blessings of the planetary aspects that are putting a rosy glow on life. Your day begins with feelings of idealism and hope as the moon in Libra trines Neptune conjunct Chiron in Aquarius. The moon is also quincunx Jupiter conjunct Uranus in Pisces, adding expansive and optimistic feelings, too. These aspects fade by early evening when the moon moves on into the deeply sensitive and introspective sign of Scorpio, but they carry you smoothly through a day of ease and flow. Later tonight, when the moon in Scorpio forms a supportive sextile to Pluto in Capricorn, spend some time reviewing your year and making plans for 2011. The lunar energy this evening encourages self examination and personal transformation, making it an ideal time to choose a realistic New Year’s resolution.

There are no major challenging energies on Thursday, December 30th. You may feel the subtle difference when Mercury turns direct, although it is always a good idea to wait another day or so before you throw caution to the wind. As I have mentioned in the past, the time when a planet changes signs or moves in or out of retrograde can feel unstable and it is always good to give your system the time it requires to integrate new energy. This morning, the moon in Scorpio forms a supportive sextile to the sun in Capricorn. Positive energy flow between the sun and moon always increases confidence and feelings of balance and wholeness. More confidence-boosting energy comes your way early this evening when the Scorpio moon is sextile Mars in Capricorn and semi-sextile Saturn in Libra. Relationships feel supportive and secure. If you are spending the evening alone, you may enjoy an activity that requires a combination of exactness and mental concentration.

The New Year’s Eve energy is infectious and almost frantic this morning on Friday, December 31st. The moon in passionate Scorpio conjunct Venus in Scorpio turns up the sex and sizzle. Couples will be connecting to make sure their plans to kiss in the New Year are in place before they get on with the work of the day. The moon forms a party hearty trine to Jupiter and Uranus in Pisces. Pisces rules wine and other spirits and Jupiter rules excess, so this trine may give alcohol sales a boost as people shop for this evening’s party. It also indicates that people may not be aware of their intoxication levels. Please don’t drink and drive. Around lunch time, the moon joins Venus in Scorpio, which assists romance, but also forms a square to Neptune in Aquarius, which can create space and the need for freedom in a relationship or make it difficult for two people to share the same romantic dream. Later this evening, the moon enters the jovial fire sign of Sagittarius and forms a difficult square to Chiron in Aquarius that can prevent the yearning for family to be part of a relationship. On the bright side, Venus in Scorpio trine to Jupiter/Uranus in Pisces increases the desire for intimacy and a forward-moving romantic relationship. As the ball drops at midnight, Venus is square to Neptune, and Mars in Capricorn is square to Saturn in Libra, both of which are considered hard and problematic aspects for matters of the heart. With such a mixed bag of good/bad aspects that all pertain to love and relationship, I would recommend that if you are on a date with someone you like, but haven’t been intimate with them yet, you should keep things just as they are. The first time you make love is a special moment in time and the birth of something. In astrology, the birth of something always has a natal chart, and the aspects in that natal chart color the personality and influence the future of that person, entity, business, or relationship birthed at that moment in time. A difficult Venus aspect pattern is in place for the next week that may produce only mild irritation or challenges for established couples, but could have very problematic future reverberations for the longevity and happiness of a relationship cemented through two becoming as one right now. At New Year’s parties this evening, that same energy mix can trigger feelings of emotional uncertainty in love, unrequited longing, jealousy, intrigue, and flirtatious teasing that goes nowhere. A week is a small price to pay for happily ever after.

The feeling of release from the pressures of a work week continues on Saturday, January 1st, as the moon in Sagittarius forms a semi-sextile to Pluto in Capricorn. You have the urge to break rules. Venus in Scorpio continues to trine Jupiter/Uranus in Pisces. Some people may be extending the party atmosphere by sleeping late and then heading out for a brunch that includes more of the hair of the dog that bit them last night. With the elements of New Year’s Eve having moved from water to fire as the moon went from Scorpio to Sagittarius yesterday, “letting off steam” is an appropriate phrase to describe what people feel today. Later tonight, the moon in Sagittarius sextile to Saturn in Libra encourages a clearing of the mind and emotions. The sense that time’s a-wasting and your weekend holiday will soon be over with not much to show for it prompts you to make plans to venture outdoors for some exercise or day tripping with friends or family tomorrow.

With the moon still riding the skies in adventurous Sagittarius on Sunday, January 2nd, you might want to give yourself an extra day to play before you knuckle down to work, discipline, and New Year’s resolutions concerning health, diet, and exercise. Wait until the moon moves into the stable earth sign of Capricorn tomorrow and your resolution will be harder to break. Try to stick to it today and you may fail, only to give up entirely. This morning, the moon in Sagittarius joins Mercury and forms a semi-sextile to Mars in Capricorn. This aspect pattern encourages travel or physical activity, like walking, running, horseback riding, or climbing. Motion, distance, action, destination – that does not mean reaching for the remote while you watch a sports program! Get out and move – you will be glad you did. Later this afternoon, the square between Saturn in Libra and Mars in Capricorn, which has kept you looking at the glass half empty for a few weeks, finally fades. The Venus/Neptune square is now the pebble in your shoe until January 8th. You may find yourself doubting or distrusting love until this aspect passes. Tonight, the moon in Sagittarius squares Jupiter/Uranus in Pisces, but makes a happy sextile to Neptune/Chiron in Aquarius. You end the day a bit wistful that the party is over, but ready to dream and create a new future.
