"Why Shamanism Now?" with Christina Pratt

Awakening the Courageous Heart: Part One

The heart doesn't heal so that it can love again. The heart chooses to love again and in that choice the heart can begin to heal. This choice to risk without safety or guarantees can only be made by the courageous. Whether you want to heal yourself, heal your clients or heal the world, healing requires courage. Join host and shaman, Christina Pratt, as she explores the terrain of the heart and the work in her Awakening the Courageous Heart Retreat. What is necessary to awaken the latent courage of the heart. Most people operate in the chamber of the heart that they feel most comfortable in. But in truth the heart has four chambers, which together nourish and sustain each other. When in balance, each chamber gives us access to one of the four powers of the heart.

Mary Golda Ross Newspaper

This Little-Known Math Genius Helped America Reach the Stars

In 1958, a woman stumped the panelists on “What’s My Line?” It took the actors Arlene Francis and Jack Lemmon, journalist Dorothy Kilgallen and publisher Bennet Cerf, celebrity panelists of the popular television game show, quite a while to figure out her M.O.

When they finally discovered what she did, the show’s host admitted that he, himself, was surprised by her occupation. The panel consisted of the stars of the day, but it was Mary Golda Ross who helped people reach them as the first female engineer at an elite, top-secret think tank.

Ross’s gender alone made her a hidden figure in the world of early spaceflight. But something else the panelists didn’t know about Ross was her Native American heritage.

Her great-great grandfather, John Ross, was the longest-serving chief of the Cherokee Nation. During his tenure, he fought to preserve his nation from white settlers’ incursions—and later was forced to lead his people along the march that became known as the Trail of Tears.

Humanity manifests a broad spectrum of sensitivities and psychic abilities and many struggle with how to manage the gifts and awareness they were born with. Join us this week as author and practitioner, Mary Shutan, shares her new book, Managing Psychic Abilities. We will explore how deeper sensitivities and abilities are needed in the world. Here's Why the Environmental Protection Agency Was Created

The Cuyahoga River burst into flames, while the Potomac stunk from the hundreds of millions of gallons of waste added to its waters every single day.

As the Environmental Protection Agency becomes the subject of focus for major cuts under President Trump's proposed budget — and as the U.N. marks World Water Day on Wednesday — it's worth looking back at the moment in time when the EPA was first created, and why Richard Nixon saw a need for the agency to exist.

Dirty water was only one ingredient. At the close of the 1960s, the United States could not escape the fact of, as TIME put it in 1968, "the relentless degradations of a once virgin continent." The evidence was right in front of citizens' faces. Pollution had gotten bad enough to be undeniable, and science had become advanced enough to make the reasons why clear. In 1963, smog had killed 400 New Yorkers, and Lake Erie's oxygen content had become so depleted that the center of the lake sustained precious little life. An oil spill off the California coast in 1969 coated 400 square miles with slime and killed hundreds of birds. Scientists announced that auto exhaust was at high enough levels in some places that it could cause birth defects. The city of St. Louis smelled, as one resident put it, "like an old-fashioned drugstore on fire."

Your Most Powerful Ally in Challenging Times

How do we protect ourselves in these challenging times as we respond to the need for activism? Effective protection keeps us from scattered and ungrounded energy, fragmentation, and from allowing our energy to be used by others. This week host and shaman, Christina Pratt, returns to Betsy Bergstrom's Heart Centered Shamanic Depossession to explore how we learn to discern what is and what isn't ours in the energies around us, what do and don't want to attune to, and how to can come out from under our own shadow and connect with our most powerful Ally-ourselves. With the help of compassionate beings and our inner Ally can find the focus, power, sense of continuity needed to feel safe and function well within our world, even as we seek to change it.
