"Why Shamanism Now?" with Christina Pratt

What Does "shaman" Mean?

Stanley Krippner respectfully defined shamans as "community-assigned magico-religious professionals who deliberately alter their consciousness in order to obtain information from the 'spirit world.' They use this knowledge and power to help and to heal members of their community, as well as the community as a whole." This week host and shaman, Christina Pratt, explores how we could use the word "shaman" well as responsible, shamanically informed global citizens. Who gets to use the word "shaman"? And how could it be used with respect, intelligence, and some reasonable hope for the future?

Daughters of Alcoholic Mothers w/Sharon Robideaux

Sharon Robideaux, co-author of My Mama's Waltz; A Book for Daughters of Alcoholic Mothers is with me today to discuss this topic. A powerful quote from the book: "She was my best friend when sober and I was her worst enemy when she was drunk." We'll delve into the effects on daughters when they live with mothers who are alcoholics, how these daughters mother their own children, mother substitutes, how daughters are treated vs sons. We'll also get into sexual abuse in families, problems around the holidays and where the fathers have gone to. How does this affect romantic relationships of the daughters? Can we reconcile the past and heal the heart?
