It's unfortunate the way the church's refusal to transform itself has literally created the conditions that allows the current state of corruption.

If it's not opened up to women (and married people as well) then there is no future for it. I predict that in less than ten years there will be too few in leadership positions so desperate to maintain their power that even more corruption will occur, both sexual and financial. In the meantime, the laity will just keep leaving and their all-important donations will dry up.

The future of the church will be independent worship communities, I would imagine. In any case, I won't be part of it as I am one of the many who have already left the faith.

Thanks for your thoughtful posts, LaVaughn.John Sorrentinohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16044725195604490741noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766906560812521746.post-43421417104504262592010-03-29T01:24:39.505-04:002010-03-29T01:24:39.505-04:00Agreed. I've been saying for years that the Catholic Church cannot continue in its present form. It's a dinosaur. It will either change or collapse. But unlike Sullivan, I'm not Catholic. I was raised Episcopalian, so my perspective may be skewed towards an unrealistic idea of potential for tolerance.LaVaughnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09147322061125012346noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6766906560812521746.post-81983530501798776682010-03-29T01:06:15.603-04:002010-03-29T01:06:15.603-04:00Andrew Sullivan has been awesome at covering all t...Andrew Sullivan has been awesome at covering all the commentary from pundits and nonhelpfullness from the church. http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/

Church patriarchy loses some power if it moves into the 21st or 20th or 19th century, so much like the Tea Partiers it's going to hold on to a present that's already passed them by.Unknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14854354375362638488noreply@blogger.com
