SHAKTI WOMAN: Feeling Our Fire, Healing Our World: The New Female Shamanism by Vicki Noble
From the co-creator of Motherpeace Tarot, this book is informative and thought provoking. Noble shares her own experience of discovering the empowered feminine. She teaches us how to reclaim the Goddess in all of her forms as she has expressed in indiginous cultures from around the world and reminds us of time, buried deep in our cultural memoer, when women were whole people.
POWER OF THE WITCH by Laurie Cabot
Cabot, the well-known "witch of salem," conducts classes and seminars on the oldest Western religion. Here is an engaging, often humorous, overview of an ancient practice as it can be lived in the modern world.
THE WOMEN'S BOOK OF HEALING: Crystals and Gemstones, Auras and Laying on of Hands, Chakras and Colors by Diane Stein
This in my opinion is one of the best overviews of different approaches to energy healing in print. Stein, a lesbian-feminist, is extremely woman centered in her approach, which may not be for everyone, but for that very reason she presents an empowering healing journey for the woman reader looking for an alternative to rigid left brain healing paradigms. Well constructed charts and tables categorize a great deal of information on chakras, colors, crystals and more.
THE WOMEN'S SPIRITUALITY BOOK by Diane Stein
This is a marvelous introduction to practices associated with Goddess worship. Stein explains the "wheel of the year," the spiritual practices associated with reverence to the Earth and her seasons. She also re-introduces the long hidden healing and divination wisdom of Goddess centered cultures.
THE WHITE GODDESS: A Historical Grammar of Poetic Myth by Robert Graves
Ask almost any neo-pagan about this book and you will likely get a strong reaction: pro or con. A renowned poet, novelist, and mythologist, Graves asserts in this rhapsodic tome that "pure" poetry owes to the White Goddess. Grounded in the lore of his Welsh upbringing, he takes off for the ancient worlds of Egypt, Rome, and Greece and cross-references the myths of the western world to demonstrate the inescapable thumbprint of the ancient triple goddess from whom all life and myth originate.
WHEN GOD WAS A WOMAN by Merlin Stone
This is a foundational work in the recovery of the ancient goddess centered religion of the Near and Middle East, the fertile crescent where recorded human history began. With sound archaeological data, Stone restores the ancient mother goddess, known by many names, to her rightful place as the formost deity of our ancestors.
THE CHALICE AND THE BLADE: Our History, Our Future by Riane T. Eisler
It has been suggested that goddess worshipping cultures of old were as hierarchical and imbalanced as the current patriarchy only in the other direction. Eisler shatters that notion in a scholarly, thoroughly researched study of Goddess centered Minoan Crete. This ancient civilization emerges as a genuine utopia of peace, creativity and freedom.
DRAWING DOWN THE MOON: Witches, Druids, Goddess-Worshippers, and Other Pagans in America Today by Margot Adler
A marvelous and lucid survey of the re-emergence of earth religions. This book has gone a long way to dispelling the myths surrounding neo-pagan faiths that have re-awakened and asserted themselves into the modern public consciousness.
