ANGELS

The answer to the persistent question is "no." Angels are not the exclusive property of the Christian church. They have been a part of many cultures and I look for books that reflect the more ecumenical view of the celestial host. I also look for scrumptious illustrations.

A BOOK OF ANGELS: Reflections on Angels Past and Present and True Stories of How They Touch Our Lives by Sophy Burnham
This runaway bestseller is as heart opening today as it was when it was originally published. Burnham traces the story of angels throughout history through to present accounts of extraordinary angelic encounters.

ANGEL LETTERS by Sophy Burnham
In these sequel to A Book of Angels author Burnham has collected the many letters from readers who's own experiences with angels offer divine inspiration.

ANGELS: A Joyous Celebration Compiled by Joan McIntosh
Artistic renderings and noted quotations examine the many interpretations of the angelic host. Artists Raphael, Cezanne and Van Gogh and writers Shakespeare and Milton are just a few of the masters represented in this exploration of the celestial mystery that is angels.

ASK YOUR ANGELS by Alma Daniel
From the archangels Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, and Uriel, to the Earth Angel and guardian angels, Daniels reminds us that help is available from the celestial realm. Drawn from historical writings and contemporary experiences, this book reminds us of the ways we can draw strength from angels to reconnect with the lost inner self and achieve goals in relationships, healing, and recovery from addiction.

ANGELS: Messengers of the Gods (Art and Imagination) by Peter Lamborn Wilson
The concept of angelic beings has inspired artists from around the world of many different spiritual traditions. Collected here are paintings, drawings, and sculpture from every every century and from every corner of the world.

ANGELS IN ART by Nancy Grubb
Botticelli, Rembrandt, and other artists from the Middle Ages to contemporary times are represented in this lavish collection of angel depictions. Illustrations include frescoes, oil paintings, mosaics, prints, stained glass, tapestries, manuscript illuminations, and scultpture.

THE ANGEL BOOK: A Handbook for Aspiring Angels by Karen Goldman
We can all be each others angels. This lusciously illustrated book brings inspiration to people endeavouring to manifest their most heavenly potential and reminds that angels are all around us.

A GATHERING OF ANGELS: Angels in Jewish Life and Literature by Morris B. Margolies
It seems to me that we often forget that the angels of the Christian variety have their roots in the Jewish tradition. This beautifully illustrated and informative book has long been one of my favorites and I'm thrilled to see it go into reprint. Rabbi and scholar Margolies pores through nearly 3,000 years of angel literature and lore to provide a unique look at Jewish history. From Elijah, the prophet-angel, to Satan, the most famous fallen angel, to the angels of writer Isaac Bashevis Singer and drawn from sources as familiar as the Talmud and the Bible and as esoteric Dead Sea Scrolls, there is no better researched book on the subject available.
